SUNRIVER, Ore. - The University of Utah men's golf team placed seventh at the 2006 Mountain West Conference Championships with a 44-over 908 in the three day tournament. Sophomore Dustin Pimm led the Utes by finishing tied for sixth with a two-over 218. Pimm carded the lowest round of the tournament on Friday, a six-under 66, after shooting a seven-over 79 in the first round. Pimm was also named to the 2006 all-MWC team.
Sophomore Chris Gresh tallied a five-over 77 in the final round to finish tied for 14th overall. Gresh shot a one-over 73 in the first round followed by a two-under 70 in the second round to finish with a three-round score of 220 (+4). Senior Nick Micek shot a six-over 78 in the third round to finish tied for 34th place. Micek finished the tournament at 13-over par (229) after shooting 77 (+5) in the first round and 74 (+2) in the second round.
Freshman Chance Cota carded a nine-over 81 in the final round to finish 41st overall. Cota shot a three-round score of 241 (+25) after shooting a 12-over 84 on the first day followed by a four-over 76 on the second day. Fellow freshman Mike Branca placed 45th overall tallying a 12-over 84 in the third round. Branca finished at 33-over par (249) after shooting a 12-over 84 in the first round before improving in the second round with a nine-over 81.
