SUNRIVER, Ore. - The University of Utah men's golf team moved from eighth to seventh place after the second day of competition at the Mountain West Conference Championships. All five of the Ute competitors improved on their first round score to help Utah shoot a 23-over 599. New Mexico leads all teams with a nine-under 567.
Sophomore Chris Gresh continues to lead the Utes after shooting a two-under 70 in the second round. Gresh finished the day tied for sixth with a one-under 143. Fellow sophomore Dustin Pimm carded the best score for the Utes in the tournament so far with a six-under 66 in the second round. Pimm's score helped him improve to one-over par (145) to finish the second day in 16th overall.
Senior Nick Micek improved on his five-over 77 in the first round by shooting a two-over 74 in the second round. Micek finished the day tied for 34th at seven-over par (151). Freshmen Chance Cota and Mike Branca both improved on their opening day 12-over 84s to finish 41st and 45th respectively. Cota carded a four-over 76 in the second round to finish at 16-over par (160) while Branca shot a nine-over 81 to finish with a 21-over 165.
