PROVO, Utah - Dustin Pimm shot an 11-under 205 at the 2006 Ping Golf Cougar Classic to lead the Utes. Pimm finished tied for second overall after shooting an eight-under 60 in the first round, followed by a two-under 70 in the second round on Friday. Pimm finished the tournament with a one-under 71. As a team, Utah finished with an even-par 864 to finish in 10th place.
Chris Gresh finished the two-day tournament at two-over par (218) to tie for 45th. Gresh shot a two-over 74 in the first round, but slipped in the second round after shooting a five-over 77. The sophomore finished the last day of competition strong, carding a five-under 67.
Freshman Chance Cota finished two strokes behind Gresh at four-over par (220). Cota finished the first day at one-over par after scoring a 73 (+1) in the first round, followed by an even-par 72 in the second round. The freshman shot a three-over 75 in the final round to tie for 57th.
Senior Nick Micek shot a nine-over 225 to finish tied for 69th overall. Micek carded a three-over 75 in the first round, but struggled in the second round by shooting an eight-over 80. The senior finished the tournament by improving with a two-under 70 in the final round.
Mike Branca shot a three-round score of 229 (+13) to finish tied for 75th. The freshman shot a one-over 73 in the first round before carding a six-over 78 in the final two rounds.
The Utes take a week off to prepare for the Mountain West Conference Championships at the Crosswater Golf Club in Sunriver, Ore., April 26-28.
