Former Ute Pat Casey Named USST Coach

SALT LAKE CITY -- The U.S. Cross Country Ski Team announced today the hire of former Utah nordic skier Pat Casey as its new development-level coach, according to U.S. Nordic Director Luke Bodensteiner.
"It's pretty exciting to have a former Ute named to the U.S. Ski Team staff," said head coach Eli Brown. "On a personal level it is awesome to have Pat and his wife Kristina back in Utah. Pat will do great things as a U.S. Ski Team coach and I wish him the best."
After graduating from the U. in 2002, Casey spent two seasons under Rick Kapala in the award-winning Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation program and has been head coach of the Bogus Basin nordic program for the past two years.
"Pat is such a natural choice for us," said Vodensteiner. "He has excellent coaching credentials at the grass root level, at the national and even at the junior international level. And I'm looking for him to further enhance our development program by developing our Continental Cup team, and by working with our regions and many clubs across the country."
While at Utah, the Sun Valley, Idaho native was the 2000 recipient of the Alf Engen Sportsmanship Award for his tremendous hard work and determination. Casey qualified for the NCAAs in both his freshman and sophomore seasons. The cross country skier also earned All-American and All-Conference honors in '98. Casey placed second in the U.S. Cross Country National Sprint Relay with former teammate Rob Whitney. The nordic skiing specialist finished his career at the U. with double majors in exercise and sport science and environmental studies.
