HONOLULU, Hawaii - Sophomore Chris Gresh shot a 35 on the first nine holes before improving on the last nine with a 34 to finish the first round with a three-under 69 to pace the Utes at the John A. Burns Intercollegiate. Gresh currently sits tied for 16th with two rounds left in the tournament. Utah finished the first day of competition in 18th place and currently holds a four-over 292. Auburn leads the field of 19 with a 15-under 273.
Dustin Pimm scored a 37 on the first nine holes, improving on the final nine by two strokes to finish at an even-par 72. Pimm is tied for 55th entering the second round of competition. Freshman Chance Cota sits two strokes behind Pimm with a two-over 74 after carding a 35 on the first nine holes before slipping four strokes (39) on the last nine. Cota finished the first round tied for 78th.
Sophomore Nick Carter finished the day with a five-over 77 (36-41). Carter currently sits tied for 92nd. Freshman Mike Branca rounded out the team for Utah with a seven-over 79 after scoring a 38 on the first nine and followed that with a 41 on the last nine to finish in 104th.
The tournament continues tomorrow through Friday at the Leilehua Golf Club.
