COLUMBUS, OHIO - The University of Utah swimming and diving teams completed day two at the Ohio State Invitational on Saturday. The Ute women sit third with 476 points, trailing South Carolina (554 points) and Ohio State (526 points). The Utah men are in sixth place with 146 points. Minnesota leads all teams in the men's draw.
For the women, Alison McInturff swam an NCAA B qualifying time as she won the 200 free with a time of 1:48.26. McInturff's time set a new school record breaking her own record in 2005. Shannon McQueen had an NCAA B qualifying time, winning the 100 back (56.09). McQueen broke the school record she previously set in 2006. Amber Walter placed second in the 100 breast coming up with a time of 1:03.52, which is also an NCAA B provisional qualifying time. The 800 free relay team of McInturff, McQueen, Annie VanLeeuwen, and Rachel Curci won with a mark of 7:27.86. Utah tallied a second place finish in the 200 medley relay, as the team of McQueen, Walter, Jennifer Fredsall and McInturff finished in 1:43.82. Fredsall also finished fourth in the 100 fly (56.32).
On the Seamus Alger placed eighth in the 400 IM, with his time of 4:04.00. Michel DeCarolis finished 10th in the 100 breast with a time of 57.82. The 800 free relay team of Alger, Marco Ferraro, George Evans and Tanner Folster placed 10th as well.
The final day of competition will be on Sunday, December 3. Both the women's and men's teams held their spots from day one, third and sixth respectively.
