Colorado Springs, Colo. - The University of Utah men's golf team wrapped up their first tournament of the fall season by finishing tied for sixth at the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational. The Utes shot a 293 in the final round to finish at 22-over par (886) and finish tied with Northern Colorado at the 72-par Eisenhower Golf Club.
For Utah, sophomore Dustin Pimm shot a 74 (+2) in the final round to tally an overall score of 4-over par (220). Pimm was the top finisher for the Utes, finishing tied for 12th place overall. Senior Steve Newren finished just one shot behind Pimm, shooting par in the final round to hold a three-round score of 221 (+5). Newren finished tied for 21st.
Sophomore Chris Gresh tallied another 74 (+2) in the third round to finish tied for 38th at 9-over par (225). Freshman Mike Branca played his best round of the tournament, finishing 1-over par on the final day of competition to also tie for 38th.
Senior Nick Micek struggled in the final round of the tournament, finishing at 10-over par (82) and tallying a three-round score of 237 (+21). Micek finished tied for 79th place.
Up next, the Utes compete in the Purple and Red Invitational at the Valley View Golf Course in Layton, Utah. The tournament will take place Sept. 19-20.
