COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The University of Utah men's golf team finished the first day of the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational tied for seventh place. Utah currently sits at 17-over par (593) and is tied with Northern Colorado.
Sophomore Dustin Pimm leads the Utes with a two-round score of 146 (+2) and is currently tied for 16th place. Pimm shot a 3-over par 75 in the first round, before improving in the second round with a 1-under par 71.
Senior Steve Newren finished the first round 2-under par (70), but faltered in the second round, finishing 7-over par (79) to finish the day tied for 31st (+5). Sophomore Chris Gresh tied for 41st after the first day of competition with a score of 151 (+7). Gresh shot a 77 (+5) in the first round before shaving off three strokes in the second round to tally 74 in the final round of the day.
Freshman Mike Branca completed the first day of competition tied for 53rd place. Branca shot a 77 in his first round of collegiate play, improving in the second round with a score of 75, to finish just one stroke behind Gresh at 152 (+8). Senior Nick Micek finished tied for 69th. Micek finished the first round at even par, but struggled in the second round by shooting a score of 83 (+11).
