SALT LAKE CITY - University of Utah head men's golf coach Randall McCracken has announced the signing of Chancellor Cota (Poway, Calif.) to a national letter-of-intent. Cota, a product of Scripps Ranch High School, will be a freshman on the Ute golf squad next season.
Cota was recently honored as a San Diego High School Athlete of the Week by the San Diego Union-Tribune newspaper. He earned the athlete of the week honor after winning all three of his matches for that week. Cota has won eight matches this season for Scripps Ranch and has a scoring average of three under par.
Cota is also currently ranked No. 6 on the International Junior Golf Tour Nike Series Order of Merit. He has two top 10 finishes in two starts on the tour, including a first-place finish at the LaCosta Resort in California.
"Chancellor will be a great addition to our team," McCracken said. "He is a very solid player, has a great work ethic and a complete game. Chancellor has the ability to become one of the better collegiate players in the country. We are very excited he has chosen to join the Utah program."
