SUNRIVER, Ore. - The University of Utah men's golf team slipped to seventh place in the final round of the 2005 MWC Golf Championship after shooting a score of 308 in the third round. Overall, Utah finished with a three-round score of 904 (+40). New Mexico claimed the team title with a score of eight-under par (856).
Freshman Chris Gresh led the Utes with a three-round score of 220 to finish four-over par. Gresh claimed the 17th spot overall by posting a one-over par 73 in the final round. Junior Steve Newren finished one stroke behind Gresh, after struggling in the third round of play. Newren finished the final round with a four-over par 76 to finish tied for 18th overall at five-over par (221).
Senior Ashdon Woods finished the final round with a six-over par 78 to place tied for 31st. Woods tallied 231 total strokes to finish 15-over par. Nick Micek and freshman Dustin Pimm finished two and three strokes behind Woods respectively. Micek and Pimm both shot a nine-over par 81 in the final round. Micek finished 36th with a three-round score of 233 (+17), while Pimm shot a 234 to finish at 18-over par.
