SUNRIVER, Ore. - The University of Utah men's golf team finished the second day of competition in sixth place at the 2005 MWC Golf Championship. Utah improved on its first round score of 300 in the second round, finishing with a score of 296, to hold an overall score of 596 (+20).
Junior Steve Newren continues to lead Utah after finishing the second round with a one-over par 73. Newren is currently tied for ninth place overall with a two-round score of 145 (+1). Freshman Chris Gresh sits two strokes back from Newren after shooting a 74 (+2) in the second round. Gresh is tied for 17th with an overall score of 147 (+3).
Nick Micek improved on his first round score of 78 after shooting a two-over par 74 in the second round of competition. Micek holds the 27th overall place at eight-over par (152). Freshman Dustin Pimm finished the second round one stroke (75) behind Micek to finish the day at 153 and tied for 28th place. Senior Ashdon Woods finished the second round tied with Micek after shooting a four-over par 76.
The MWC Championship tees off its final round tomorrow at 8 a.m.
