BEAUMONT, Calif. - The University of Utah men's golf team finished the first day of the Braveheart Classic in eighth place. The Utes shot a 294 in the first round, followed by a 295 in the second round to tally an overall score of 589 (+13). The third and final round will be played Tuesday, March 8, at the 72-par Oak Valley Golf Club. Cal Poly leads all teams with an eight-under score of 568 strokes.
Freshman Chris Gresh finished the first day tied for 14th, after shooting a one-over par 73 in the first round, and finishing one-under par in the second round to sit at even par (144) entering the final round. Senior Ashdon Woods is two strokes back from Gresh at 146 (+2), after shooting a 71 in the first round and 75 in the second round. Woods finished the day tied for 29th.
Nick Micek shot a two-round score of 149 (+5), after scoring a 74 in the first round and a 75 in the second round, to claim a spot tied for 38th. Freshman Dustin Pimm finished tied for 44th, after shooting a four-over par 76 in the first round and a two-over par 74 in the second round to finish at six-over par (150). Senior Jake Sowby finished with a 14-over par 158 to tie for 88th after the first day.
