POCATELLO, Idaho - The University of Utah Indoor Track and field team finished competition for the ISU Mountain State Games on Saturday, Feb. 05. Held at the Holt Arena, the meet featured athletes from Utah, Idaho State, Weber State, Utah State Utah Valley State College, Sacramento State, Montana, Montana State and Redlands.
Amanda Feigt dabbled in several events for the Utes and claimed one victory. The sophomore took gold in the triple jump with an impressive 37' 0.75" distance. Feigt also finished second in the 400-meter invitational with a personal best 56.68 finish and was barley nudged out of first place in the long jump, taking second with 18' 10.25".
The throwing squad had another strong meet, wining two out of four events. Senior Candice Workman-Ekberg took gold in both of those events. She won the weight throw with a personal best 54' 8.00" and won the shot put with a distance of 48' 4.00".
The runners also had a strong meet, grabbing gold in three events. Junior Elise Greenwod-Bahr finished second in the 5,000 meters, but was the first collegiate runner to cross the finish line. Her time of 17:32.48 is a new personal record and ranks second on Utah's top-ten list.
Sophomore Candice Mannion finished first in the open 400-meters with a personal best 59.55. Sophomore Jennie Haertel finished second in the mile invitational with 5:04.02, but was the first attached runner to finish.
Senior Delfino Arevalo and sophomore Vance Twitchell took the top two spots in the 5,000 meters. Arevalo took gold with a personal best 14:38.80 time, while Twitchell took second with a personal best 14:55.50. Arevalo also took gold in the mile with an impressive 4:18.81 finish.
Sophomore Susan Atwater had a strong performance in the pole vault, tying for second place, with a personal best 12' 0.50" jump.
Next up for the Utes are the Holiday Inn Invitational and the Washington Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 12. The Holiday Inn Invitational will be held in Boise, Idaho while the Washington meet will be in Seattle, Wash.
