THIS WEEK:
The University of Utah travels to Lakeside, Calif., to compete in the Barona Cup at the Barona Valley Ranch Resort. The tournament is hosted by San Diego State and consists of three rounds. Utah has moved up 40 spots in both national polls. The Utes are ranked 71st in the GolfStat poll and 86th in the Golfweek rankings. This will be the first time Utah has competed since September 28 when they finished fourth at the Wolf Pack Classic.
PRAISING PIMM:
Utah sophomore Dustin Pimm was named the Mountain West Conference Men's Golfer of the Month for September. This marks the first conference award of his career, and the first Utah golfer to be tabbed by the conference since Ryan Ellis during the 2001 spring season, back when the award was given weekly. Pimm is currently ranked first in the conference and 57th in the nation. The sophomore leads the conference in stroke average (70.11) and overall strokes (631).
Pimm garnered national attention, being named Golfweek's Men's Player of the Week after his stellar performance at the Purple and Red Invitational held Sept. 19-20 at the Valley View Golf Course in Layton, Utah.
Pimm's record-setting performance at the Purple and Red Invitational, where he claimed medalist honors with a 14-under 202, leads off his list of accomplishments during the month of September. Pimm's final round of 64 at the Purple and Red set a new course and tournament record, as well as a new career best. The sophomore was named the Golfweek Player of the Week after his performance at the Purple and Red Sept. 19-20.
Pimm has finished at par or better in seven of his nine rounds of golf during the month of September. At the Wolf Pack Classic, the sophomore tied for fourth with a 7-under 209. Pimm's opening tournament of the year was the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational, Sept. 10-11, where he finished tied for 12th with a 220. Pimm has paced the Utes at all three tournaments the team has competed in this year.
