OGDEN, Utah - The University of Utah Indoor Track and field team finished competition for the Wildcat Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 22. Held at the Swenson Indoor Track, the meet featured athletes from Utah, Weber State and Utah Valley State College.
Utah dominated the women's shot put and weight throw, taking gold in both events. Senior Candice Workman-Ekberg won the shot put for the second meet in a row, throwing an impressive 48' 0.50". Ekberg set a school record in that event at the BYU Invitational last week. Junior Vanessa Mortensen won the weight throw with and impressive 56' 8.50", a new personal record.
Several athletes set personal records in the throwing events. Freshman Nicole Farnsworth and junior AJ Roby set personal records in the shot put while senior Amber DeVries set one in the weight throw.
"We had a strong throwing meet," states Interim Co-Head Coach Tapio Kuusela. "Once again, we had many athletes set personal records and break into Utah's top-ten list. Overall, this was another successful meet."
