The University of Utah men's golf team finished the first day of competition in eighth place at the Northwest Collegiate Classic. The Utes shot four-over par on the day (580), and will play one more round on Tuesday.
Utah started the day off well, finishing the first round at four-under par, and was in third place entering the second round. As the day wore on, the Utes were unable to maintain their great start, finishing the second round at eight-over par (296) to fall to eighth place.
Freshman Nick Carter is tied for 23rd at even par (144). Carter finished the first round two-under par (72), but stumbled in the second round to finish at two-over par (74). Fellow freshmen Dustin Pimm and Daniel Smith both finished the first round at one-under par; however in the second round Pimm shot a 74, and Smith finished with 75 strokes, to place them at 29th and 36th respectively.
Senior Ashdon Woods struggled in the first round taking five strokes over par, but was able to put together a solid second round and shoot 73 (+1) to finish tied for 60th on the day. Chace Bickmore finished at even par in the first round, but stumbled in the second round, taking six strokes over par to share 60th with Woods.
