Colorado Springs, Colo. - The University of Utah men's golf team are in sixth place after two rounds at the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational. Utah finished the day at 21-over par (589), and three players in the top 25.
Senior Ashdon Woods leads the Utes after finishing tied for fourth at one-over par (143). Woods started the tournament strong, finishing at par (71) after the first round, but slipped in the second round one stroke over par.
Nick Carter finished the day at five-over par in his first collegiate tournament. Carter is tied for 16th with a score of 147. Fellow freshman Daniel Smith is one stroke back from Carter at six-over par. Redshirt freshman Chace Bickmore finished the day at 52nd, while Dustin Pimm shot a 156 in the first two rounds to finish tied for 62nd place. Smith, Bickmore and Pimm are also competing in their first collegiate event since joining the Utes.
Fellow Utah schools are fairing well along with the Utes. Southern Utah leads the field at nine-over par, eight strokes ahead of Weber State, who are tied for second with Grand Canyon University. Utah Valley State College is just ahead of the Utes by two strokes, and the Aggies of Utah State finished the day in 12th place.
Utah resumes play tomorrow, after which they travel to Corvallis, Ore., to compete in the Oregon State Invitational Sept. 13-14.
