Ute Golfers Jensen and Swilor Named All-America Scholars

NORMAN, Okla.--The Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) has announced the 2004 Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar Recipients for Divisions I. Included on that list are Ute seniors Carl Jensen and Luke Swilor.
To be eligible for Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar status an individual must be a junior or senior academically and competed in at least two full years at the collegiate level, participate in 70-percent of his teams competitive rounds, have a stroke average under 76.0 and maintain a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and in good standing at his college or university.
Jensen, a Salt Lake City native, was a solid contributor for the Ute team this season. He participated in all but one tournament and had a top finish of 15th at the Ron Moore Classic. His best score came at the Wyoming Cowboy Classic in mid-April, where he shot a 217 (75-70-72). Jensen made the fall semester honor roll this year and was an academic all-conference team member last season with a repeat honor likely around the corner. He has maintained a cumulative grade-point average of 3.305 in accounting, which he is currently finishing up coursework for.
Swilor competed in all 12 tournaments for Utah. He finished a season-best second at the Falcon Invitational with a score of 210 (71-68-71). The Salt Lake City native was the Utes top finisher in four different tournaments. Swilor was named to fall and spring semester honor rolls and the spring Dean's List this past season. This is his second All-America Scholar Award-he also earned it last season as a junior. During his time at Utah, Swilor was named a Mountain West Conference Scholar Athlete twice, along with academic all-conference two times. His third honor in both categories is likely on the way when the league awards its spring honors later this summer. Swilor graduated this past May in economics with a 3.664 GPA.
