THIS WEEK:
Utah will compete in the Mark Faldmo Invitational, in Logan, Utah, this Saturday, April 17. Competition will take place at the Ralph Maughan Track Stadium.
Results for the Mark Faldmo Invitational will be posted at www.utahstateaggies.ocsn.com.
QUOTING HEAD COACH Lisa Archer:
"The weather is supposed to be ugly this weekend," said Archer. "Much like last weekend, it will affect our performances. Our goal is to compete well and our athletes will be concentrating on their secondary events rather than their stronger ones. This should prepare us for the Oregon and BYU meets later this month."
LAST MEET:
The University of Utah outdoor track and field teams finished competition for the Wildcat Invitational on Saturday, April 10. Held at Weber State's Stewart Stadium, the meet featured athletes from Utah, Weber State, Montana State, Wyoming, Utah Valley State College and Idaho State.
Leading the way for the women were Amanda Feigt, Nellie Hammons, Elise Greenwood and Katie Decker who all notched first-place finishes in their respective events. Feigt won the long jump (19' 0.25"), the triple jump (37' 11.50"), and finished fourth in the 100m with 12.43. Her mark in the 100m is a new personal record for the freshman. Hammons took the 800m with 2:10.70, Greenwood won the 5,000m (18:15.43) and Decker won the high jump (5' 6").
The women's team also got strong performances from Vanessa Mortensen, Mandie Rowell and Aubry Startin. Mortensen finished third in the hammer (176' 5.50"), Rowell took fourth in the pole vault (10' 9") and Startin finished fourth in the high jump (5' 4").
On the men's side, veterans Nephi Tyler and Jeff Davidson led the way. Tyler finished third in the 1,500m (3:55.20) and Davidson took fifth in the steeplechase with 9:42.34.
"Conditions were rough," states Head Coach Lisa Archer. "It was freezing cold with terrible winds, but we competed well despite the harsh weather."
UTES ON THE RUN:
Amanda Feigt continues to dabble in several events. Last weekend she improved 100m mark to 12.43, good enough for fourth place and ranks 16th in the Mountain West Conference. Feigt also ranks second in the long jump (19' 9"), third in the triple jump (40' 0.25") and tenth in the 400m (56.39).
Senior Nellie Hammons competed in the 800m for the first time during the outdoor season at the Wildcat Invitational. The South Weber native took gold in the event with an impressive 2:10.70 finish. Hammons' performance ranks second in the conference.
MIGHTY FROSH:
Mandie Rowell had a great week at the Wildcat Invitational finishing fourth in the pole vault with a height of 10' 9". After an injury to senior pole vaulter Tracy Hamblin, who will be out the remainder of the regular season, Rowell did an excellent job stepping up for the team. She currently ranks ninth in the conference.
FROM THE TRAINER'S TABLE:
Freshman Lauren Browning fell while competing in the hurdle events last weekend. The American Fork native is listed as day-to-day.
UPCOMING EVENTS:
The Utes will compete in the Oregon Invitational in Eugene, Ore., next Saturday, April 24.
