SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah men's golf team signed two high-school recruits, one local product and another from Idaho. The announcement came today from Head Coach Randall McCracken.
Mike Branca, a Brighton High School standout, was a runner-up for the Utah Junior Golf Association State Amateur tournament. Branca was named to the 5A all-state golf team and is a member of the Utah Junior America's Cup team. He is the son of Ron Branca, who is the Salt Lake Country Club head golf professional.
Alex Eby joins the Utes from Boise, Idaho, where he ranked 159th on the Junior Golf Scoreboard and was named the No. 1 junior golfer in Idaho by the Idaho Golf Association. Eby is a member of the Idaho Hogan Cup team and Junior America's Cup team. He also finished fifth at the Idaho State Junior Championship in 2004.
"Mike and Alex are going to be great additions to our team," said McCracken. "Both have proven themselves as junior golfers and they have the talent to become great collegiate golfers.
"I feel very fortunate to have signed Mike and Alex early because they both had the opportunity to go to other programs and I know we will see great things from both of them."
