Utah Golf Finishes Fifth at Ron Moore

BRIGHTON, Colo.- - The University of Utah men's golf team completed the final round at the Ron Moore Classic on Tuesday, with a team score of nine-over-par, 873 (293-284-296). The Utes dropped one spot in the final round as they struggled shooting a 296. Garrett Clegg was the leader for Utah finishing in eighth with an even-par, 216 (73-69-74). Clegg was in fifth after two rounds but struggled with his putting on the final day to drop him out of contention for the win individually.
"We played a very average tournament, nothing exceptional," comments Head Coach Wayne Fisher. "The team did decent but no one is really happy with the performance, the upside is that we finished fifth though."
Luke Swilor added the best individual score in the third round for Utah with a 70 to move up to 15th with a three-over, 219 (75-74-70). Carl Jensen also finished with a three-over, 219 (73-71-75) and tied for 15th. Steve Newren finished 29th with a six-over, 222 (72-72-78) and Nick Micek finished 35th with a nine-over, 225 (72-76-77).
Colorado State won the tournament shooting a team score of 14-under, 850 (290-274-286). The Rams also had the individual winner in Nolan Martin who shot a three-round total of 12-under.
The next tournament for the Utes will begin on Oct. 6 when they will compete in the Wolf Pack Invitational.
