Kulikowski Is MWC Student-Athlete Of The Year

University of Utah gymnast Theresa Kulikowski was selected as the Mountain West Conference Female Student-Athlete of the Year, marking the second straight year a Ute gymnast has won the coveted award. Last year's honoree was Shannon Bowles. The 2003 male recipient was Air Force swimmer John Dayton.
Established by the Mountain West Conference Joint Council in 1999, the Student-Athlete of the Year award is the highest honor presented to a student-athlete by the conference. The award is bestowed annually to the man and woman who best exemplify the term "student-athlete" by achieving excellence in academics, community involvement and athletics.
The award carries a $2,500 graduate scholarship, increasing Kulikowski's postgraduate fund to $9,400. She was previously awarded a $6,900 NCAA postgraduate scholarship.
One of the most decorated gymnasts in NCAA history, Kulikowski won three NCAA championships and posted two NCAA runner-up finishes in her career, while maintaining a 4.0 GPA. She earned All-America status on all 14 events she competed in the NCAA Championships during her career and was also a two-time first-team Academic All-American. She was named the Verizon at-large Academic All-American of the Year in both 2002 and 2003.
The MWC and Verizon awards are the two latest honors for Kulikowski, who set Utah records for most 10.0 scores (14) and victories (111) and was named one of Utah's top 25 female athletes of all-time. She was voted the AAI Senior Gymnast of the Year by the nation's gymnastics coaches after winning more than half of the events she competed in 2003.
Kulikowski graduated Summa Cum Laude with a 4.0 GPA in May 2002 with a double major in exercise and sports science and psychology. This past year, she took pre-requisite courses for a physical therapy master's degree and maintained her 4.0 GPA. In addition to her academic and athletic commitments, Kulikowski volunteered for a number of organizations, including the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation and the Children's Center in Salt Lake City.
