SALT LAKE CITY -- The University of Utah women's tennis had their first conference home match today, losing 6-1 to the nation's 22-ranked team in the UNLV Rebels. In a contest that saw four matches decided by tiebreakers, the Utes stayed tough, but the Rebels caught the breaks and the win in the end. The loss puts the Utes at 4-10 on the season.
In the doubles there were two matches extended to tie-breaks, with Ellen Svensson and Alli Hansen falling 9-8 (5) to Agnieszka Abram and Jackie White in no. one singles, and Maria Svensson and Sheri Esrock falling 9-8 (7) to Gyorgyi Zsiros and Amy Hadziosmanovic.
The singles matches also saw two tie-breakers, with Cassie Kasteler and Maria Svensson each meeting their opponents for extended matches, fighting hard but falling in the end.
