CHAMPIONSHIP WEEK:
The Utah golf team will travel to Sunriver, Ore. for the Mountain West Conference Championships on May 1-3. The lineup for the Utes will consist of Casey Fowles, Carl Jensen, Garrett Clegg, Luke Swilor and Steve Newren.
Last year Utah finished eighth at the MWC Championships with a team score of 885 (298-292-295). Utah was led by Luke Swilor who finished in 10th with a three round score of 219 (72-74-73).
THE FIELD:
The 54-hole tournament begins on May 1 at the Sunriver Resort-Crosswater. All eight MWC schools will compete. UNLV was the 2002 conference champion and will head the field that includes Air Force, Brigham Young, Colorado State, New Mexico, San Diego State, Utah and Wyoming.
LOOKING BACK AT THE COUGAR CLASSIC:
Utah is coming off a fourth place finish at the Cougar Classic. The Utes finished with a team score of three-over-par, 867 (283-289-295), Luke Swilor led the way with a one-under, 215 (68-74-73) finishing in seventh and Ashdon Woods finished in 12th with a three-over, 219 (73-72-74).
UTE NOTES:
Utah has won two tournaments this year the Countrywide Intercollegiate on Oct. 21-22 and the USD Invitational on March 17-18. The Utes have also had two individual winners Casey Fowles finished first at the Countrywide Intercollegiate and Garrett Clegg finished first at the Highlander Classic. Utah is averaging a sixth place finish as a team this year.
