BEAUMONT, Calif.- Ute junior Garrett Clegg was the wire-to-wire leader on his way to becoming the individual winner at the Highlander 'Braveheart' Classic. Clegg shot an eight-under 208 for the tournament with rounds of 66-71-71, leaving him two-strokes ahead of the field. Utah finished with a team score of six-over 870. The Utes finished in third after leading the tournament following the first round.
For the Utes Casey Fowles added a one-over 217, finishing in 14th, while Luke Swilor shot a five-over 221, putting him in 26th. Ashdon Woods finished 44th shooting an 11-over 227, and Steve Newren added a 12-over 228, leaving him in 50th.
Utah led the tournament after a first round 285; however fell to third with a second round 296. A final round 289 left the Utes alone in third 25-strokes back of tournament winner and host UC Riverside finishing with a 19-under 845. Denver finished in second at four-over 868.
