SALT LAKE CITY, Utah - The University of Utah men's tennis team faced the Idaho State Bengals on March 12 at the Eccles Tennis Center. After jumping out to a 3-0 lead, Utah held on for a 5-2 win to move to a 6-6 overall record on the season.
Ahead 3-0 after doubles and numbers four and five singles, the Utes found themselves down a set in each of the four remaining singles matches. Utah came back to tie each respective match at a set a piece, and Kaisorn Chaichana iced the Ute win with his 6-3, 3-6, 6-1 win over Jemre Okoh in number six singles.
In number two singles, Daniel Lohff battled Hestian Stoica all the way through three sets, although losing 7-6, 3-6, 7-6 in the end. Tyler Poulson, facing Butch Stavridis in number three singles, contested his way to a 5-7, 6-4, 7-6 win.
The Utes won the four and five singles convincingly, with Nick Coutts downing Pablo Garces 6-0, 6-1, and Tomasz Grzyb upending Adam Krupp 6-1, 6-1.
In the doubles matches, the Utes took two out of the three matches for the point. Poulson team with Grzyb to edge out Stoica and Stavridis 9-7, and Lohff and Chaichana took out Jemre Okoh and Chris Sadek 8-4.
The Utes will now travel to California for a four-match road swing, starting at UC-Riverside for a Sunday, March 16 matchup.
