MORAGA, CA. - MORAGA, CA. -- The University of Utah men's tennis team defeated Saint Mary's 6-1 on Sunday to improve to 4-4 in match play on the season. The Utes out played the Gaels in four close singles matches, capturing all but of the six singles points.
The Utes were led by Roeland Brateanu in the two position, as Brateanu battled with Martin Marechal. Brateanu scored the point in a 6-3, 7-6, (7-5) match. Tyler Poulson also had a marathon match against Roman Lachens in the three spot, winning 6-4, 5-7, (10-5). Two other matches went the distance, with Tomasz Grzyb defeating Andre Sion 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 in #5 singles, and Kaisorn Chaichana defeaing Filip Sarovic 7-6 (7-0), 6-1 in the six singles.
In doubles, Brateanu teamed with Nick Coutts to defeat Sion and Lachens 8-6. Chaichana and Daniel Lohff overpowered Sarovic and Josh Farley, 8-3.
