STANFORD, Calif. -- Before the tennis season began, University of Utah men's tennis Head Coach F.D. Robbins said that playing a PAC-10 team gives the team a chance to measure up against the best players in the nation. The Utah men had a chance to measure up against the Stanford Cardinal, the seventh-ranked team in the nation. Utah was dropped 7-0, and with the loss is now 4-5 on the season.
In doubles play, Roeland Brateanu and Nick Coutts met the nation's third best doubles team, Scott Lipsky and David Martin, in an 8-3 loss for the Utes. In no. 2 doubles, Tomasz Grzyb and Tyler Poulson wer dropped by the nation's ninth best team, KC Corkery and James Pade, in another 8-3 loss.
The utes lost all six singles matches in straight sets. In number five singles, Nick Coutts almost grabbed a set from Carter Morris, but was edged out in a 6-2, 7-6 loss.
