The University of Utah men's golf team finished the first round of the John Burns Intercollegiate in Wahiawa, Hawaii, on Wednesday, in sixth place. After round one of the three-day tournament, Utah is seven strokes back of the lead with a team score of 287.
Leading the way for the Utes, Casey Fowles and Garrett Clegg each shot a three-under par 69, tying them for seventh place individually. Carl Jensen is in 50th with his first round score of 74, Luke Swilor is in 61st with his round of 75, and Steve Newren added a 76, leaving him in 72nd.
Arizona leads the tournament with a team score of 280 followed by SMU and New Mexico, each finishing with a 281. The second round will begin at 7:30 a.m. on Thursday.
