SALT LAKE CITY, Utah - The University of Utah men's tennis team continued its winning ways today, with a 6-1 defeat over the visiting Aggies of New Mexico State. Roeland Brateanu led the way for the Utes with a win over Ben Archer-Clowes in a close match in the two position, 4-6, 7-6, 6-2.
In other singles action, Mountain West Conference Player of the Week Daniel Lohff fell to Mark Roberts in the one position, 7-5, 6-3. It marks just the second loss in dual format this season for Lohff.
Utah Head Coach F.D. Robbins was pleased with the win. "I thought the guys came out today. They played really hard." Robbins was especially pleased with the efforts of Nick Coutts and Tyler Poulson. Coutts defeated Luis Avila 6-2, 6-4. Poulson defeated Danilo Zivanovic 6-2, 7-6. "Poulson had a real confidence win today. This is a guy he's lost to in their two previous matches," Robbins said after the match.
Robbins was also happy with the effort in the doubles play. Brateanu and Coutts teamed up to defeat Roberts and Avila 8-6. Poulson teamed with Tomasz Grzyb to defeat Archer-Clowes and Dan Even 9-8. "The matches were really close. I felt that this was a great team effort."
