Tucson - The University of Utah men's tennis team began their Arizona tour with a match against Northern Arizona in Tucson on Sunday. The men were close, but came up short in a 4-3 loss. The loss sets the Utes to 3-2 on the season.
The Utes were unable to capture the doubles point after two close matches. Roeland Brateanu and Nick Coutts fell to Fredrik Jeppsson and Thibault Schram in the no. 1 spot 9-8. In another close contest, Tyler Poulson and Tomasz Grzyb fell to Daniel Lundstrom and Francisco Lando 8-6. In the third doubles match, Utah's Daniel Lohff and Kaisorn Chaichana overmatched Jeremy Coll and James Heck, blanking them 8-0.
Brateanu came out victorious in a close match with Jeppsson in the no. 1 singles spot, defeating Jeppsson 3-6, 7-6, 6-3. Coutts was strong in his match with Francisco Lando in the four spot, with a 6-2, 6-2 win. In another strong Ute performance, Chaichana overpowered Ronson Taylor 6-1, 6-2.
