SALT LAKE CITY, Utah -- - The University of Utah Men's tennis team opened their spring season in strong fashion, sweeping the Aggies of Utah State 7-0 in dual play. The Utes made a dominant performance, winning all six singles matches in straight sets. The Utes are now 1-1 on the season, with the loss coming to Brigham Young in the ITA Indoor Qualifier last November.
In singles play, sophomore Daniel Lohff met Jonah Nelson in the number one position. Lohff won, 6-2, 6-3. Roeland Bratenau defeated Jason Trask at the two position, 6-4, 6-2. Junior Tyler Poulson beat Jordan Butler, 6-4, 6-4.
In doubles action, Roeland Brateanu and Nick Coutts teamed for the first time this year and overcame Jonah Nelson and Jordan Butler, 8-5. Tyler Poulson and Tomasz Grzyb, also in their first pairing, dominated Brandon Butler and Jason Trask, winning 8-1. Kaisorn Chaichana and Daniel Lohff, resuming their partnership from the fall tournaments, met Ryan Bair and Jacob Jensen, netting a 8-4 win.
