BOISE, IDAHO - The No. 8 University of Utah women's volleyball team fell to 6-2 on the season with a three-game loss to Eastern Washington (22-30, 25-30, 31-33) at the Boise State Invitational tonight.
Senior Sylva Strzinkova led the Utes with 10 kills, followed by Junior Kim Turner with nine and sophomore Lyndsey Phillips with eight. Junior libero Jackie Morrill led Utah with 13 digs, while sophomore setter Kelsie Kartchner finished with 33 assists.
The Eagles were led by Janelle Ruen, who finished with a double-double (16 kills, 12 digs). Eastern Washington out-hit Utah .282 to .152. Both teams notched seven blocks.
"Eastern Washington played a great match -- they ran a great offense," Head Coach Beth Launiere said. "We started to shut them down in game three, but it was too late. They are a very good team with experience and they just played better than we did tonight."
UP NEXT: Tomorrow, the Utes face host Boise State at 12:30 p.m. and George Washington at 5:00 p.m. in day two of the tournament.
