THIS WEEK:
The University of Utah outdoor track and field team will kick off competition for the Mountain West Conference Championships in Colorado Springs, Colo. on Wed., May 15. The meet will last until Sat., May 18 and will feature all conference teams. Having much success against top conference opponents, the Utes have been strong in the 2002 season and will look to have more strong performances at the MWC Championships.
LAST MEET:
The University of Utah outdoor track and field team competed at the Utah Collegiate Classic Track Meet on Wed., May 8. The Utes competed against athletes from Utah State, BYU, Weber State and Utah Valley State. Utah finished the meet winning four events including the women's 5,000-meter run, the women's hammer throw, the men's 1,500-meter run and the women's high jump.
Top finishes for the women's team included Zuzana Sarikova's first place finish in the 5,000-meter run (17:38.75), Elise Greenwood's second place finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (11:40.27) and Natasha Eldridge's first place finish in the hammer throw (51.45). On the men's side, Nephi Tyler finished first place finish in the 1,500-meter run (3:53.46), Torin Koos placed second in the 1,500-meter run (3:55.98) and Jeff Davidson placed third in the 3,000 meter steeplechase (9:50.58).
AFTER THIS:
Qualified Ute athletes will join other top athletes from around the country in Baton Rouge, La. to compete in the 2002 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The meet will begin competition on Wed., May 29 and last until Sat., June 1st.
