SUNRIVER, Ore.- The University of Utah men's golf team wrapped up the first day of competition in seventh place with a score of 298 (10-over par). UNLV leads the field after the first day by edging out Brigham Young by three strokes to finish the day at par (288).
For the Utes, Luke Swilor continued his strong play by finishing tied for fifth. Swilor shot a 35 on the first nine holes and 37 on the last nine to finish the day even with par (72).
Senior Paul Winterowd and freshmen Ashdon Woods tied for 20th place along with New Mexico's Scott Hailes at two-over par (74). Junior Bruce Summerhays Jr. tied for 36th place with a six-over 78. Nick Summers finished the first round tied for 39th place with a 79 (seven-over par).
The Mountain West Golf Championships will continue Tuesday and Wednesday with 18 holes being played each day.
