SALT LAKE CITY - After a tough lose against top-ranked BYU, the Utes bounce back with a dominating win over Southern Utah, 7-0. "This win is going to give us some confidence going into the Boise State match," remarked coach John Tsumas. The women netters swept past the Thunderbirds in both singles and doubles. The Utes improve to 9-12 on the season.
In singles action, freshman Ellen Svensson dowsed Katie Zobrist at the number one spot, 6-2, 6-2. Sheri Esrock notched Kendra Gleason, 6-0, 6-2. Senior Linn Ronnberg defeated Andee Durrant, 6-2, 6-0. Captain Irini Kotoglou blanked Ashlee Gardner, 6-0, 6-0. Cassie Kasteler triumphed over Kelly Patterson, 6-1, 6-0 and freshman Alison Hansen etched Crystal Holt, 6-2, 6-2.
In doubles action, Kotoglou and Hansen teamed up to defeat Gleason and Zobrist, 8-2. Ronnberg and Esrock edged out Durrant and Patterson, 8-1 and the Kasteler and Svensson duo beat out Holt and Gardner, 8-0
Coming up, Utah will be up against No. 48 ranked Boise State. The Broncos are coming off a victory over Utah State, 7-0. The match will be held at the Salt Lake Swimming and Tennis Club, Apr. 20 at 11:00 a.m.
