SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah's women's tennis team was etched out by No. 58 Kansas, 4-3. The Utes were down early, but battled back late in the match. The late come back just wasn't enough to hold off the 3-2 Jayhawks. This defeat puts Utah's overall record at 5-4.
In singles action, Linn Ronnberg defeated Emily Haylock in an extended set, 7-6, 3-6, 7-5. Senior Irini Kotoglou finished off Courtney Steinbock, 7-5, 7-5 and Cassie Kasteler overcame Christi Wagenarr, 6-2, 6-1.
In doubles action, Utah's Sheri Esrock and Hansen defeated Cheryl Mallaiah and Aurelie Bejar, 8-4. The Ronnberg and Kotoglou duo were ousted by Steinbock and Wagenaar and Kasteler and Ellen Svensson were defeated by Haylock and Kim Lorenz, 8-1.
The Utes will compete tomorrow, Mar. 3 against No. 29 Washington State. This match will be played at 11:00 a.m.
