THIS WEEK: The University of Utah men's golf team will travel to San Diego, Calif., to compete in the San Diego Invitational on Mar., 18-19. The event will be hosted by the University of San Diego at the Del Mar Country Club.
JOHN BURNS INVITATIONAL RECAP: The men's golf team finished 13th out of 20 teams at the John Burns Invitational on Feb. 22, 2002. Utah finished with a three-round score of 891. San Diego State won the tournament with a 853 total.
Freshman Ashdon Woods finished ninth overall to lead the Utes with a three round score of 214. Woods finished with a 71 (one-under par) in his first two rounds, before finishing with a score of 72 (par) in the third round.
Sophomore Luke Swilor finished tied for 22nd with a three-round score of 218, Swilor finished at par (72) in the first round and one-over par in the last two rounds (73). Nick Micek finished tied for 70th place with a 229 total. Paul Winterowd finished tied for 76th place with a overall score of 230, and Jason Shepard finished tied for 88th with a 235 total.
HEAD COACH WAYNE FISHER: "I'm excited to see how our team responds after the Hawaii tournament. With how Luke (Swilor) and Ashdon (Woods) are playing it will be interesting to see how the rest of the team performs."
