After a third-place finish at the NCAA Ski Championships, the University of Utah ski team boasted 10 All-American student athletes.
Headlining the group was Pierre Olsson, who skied to second-place in both the giant slalom and the slalom in Anchorage last weekend. Jernej Bukovec received All-America status for the third consecutive year by tying for seventh in the slalom and placing ninth in the GS. Josh Whitham was the third men's alpine skier to earn the honor with his seventh-place showing in the GS.
Sophomore April Mancuso was one-of-three women's alpine All-Americans. Mancuso placed second in the NCAA GS. Petra Svet took the honor for the second-consecutive year by placing third in the slalom. Annik Boulva placed sixth in the slalom to achieve All-America status.
Each of the three men's cross country competitors at the NCAA championships gave All-American performances. Olympian Torin Koos placed fourth in the classical and sixth in the freestyle to earn the honor. Senior Petter Svendsen placed eighth in the classical and ninth in the freestyle to become a repeat honoree, while Ryan Quinn's seventh-place showing in the classical gave him the prestige.
Jaana Kettunen was the sole honoree on the women's cross country team. Kettunen placed 10th in the freestyle at the NCAA Championships.
"The fact that we had 10 All-Americans is a big credit to our team this season," said head coach Kevin Sweeney. "Our team results were not as high as what they could have been, but our skiers did a tremendous job charging all the way to the end."
