WINTERPARK, Colo - Utah Ski Team Finishes Third at Denver All-American Scott Woodland out for seasonReleased: Jan. 27, 2002WINTER PARK, Colo.. -- After wrapping up the slalom and sprint competitions at the Denver Ski Invitational, the University of Utah ski team held on to a third-place finish behind Denver and Colorado.
The Utes were devastated as All-American skier Scott Woodland blew out his knee competing in the men's alpine events. In his four years with the Utes, Woodland has notched over a dozen top-five finishes.
Utah controlled the women's freestyle sprint on the closing day of competition. Jorunn Oye skied to a first-place victory for the Utes. Fourth and ninth place finishes added to Utah's team total to give it a large lead over Colorado in the event. The men's cross country team came away with a fourth and sixth place finish, but did not have a third scorer.
The women's alpine team scored three top-10 finishes in the slalom event, placing third, ninth and tenth. The men's squad scores came from fifth, 16th and 17th place finishes.
The Utes will take a week off before heading to the final invite of the season at New Mexico. From there, Utah will compete in the Regional Championship in Anchorage, Alaska Feb. 27-28. The NCAA championships will wrap up the season Mar. 6-9.
