Utah Track & Field Notes Men and Women Split Meet Sights
THIS WEEK: The women's team competes at San Diego State University in San Diego, Calif. and the men's team competes at Weber State University in Ogden, Utah on April 14.
LAST WEEK: Chantel Goldsberry, Trina Bateman and (B.J.) Brad Christenson earned wins at the UNLV Invitational in Las Vegas, Nevada on April 7. Shanae Nixon finished second overall and was the first collegiate competitor at the Boise State Heptathlon.
COACH JONES ON THE WOMEN'S TEAM: "This was a great start to the outdoor season. The women ran very well in the 5,000-meter run. Charity Catmull finished in 18:29.22, which is great for a freshman. Julie and Jennifer Osguthorpe posted lifetime best times. Julie finished sixth in 18:46.80 and Jennifer finished eighth in 19:16.00. Daisy Freedman did well finishing eighth. Chantel threw the hammer exceptionally well this early in the season. This was her first hammer competition for the year since it isn't featured during the indoor season," said Coach Jones.
"Shanae Nixon and Kristy Slade exceeded my expectations at the Boise State Heptathlon. Both finished over the 4500 points mark."
COACH JONES ON THE MEN'S TEAM: "B.J Christenson and Colby Frazier did a great job in the 1,500-meter run. B.J. finished under the four-minute mark with 3:57.58 to earn first place. Colby finished in 4:01.99 for fifth place," said Coach Jones.
INJURY REPORT: April Jackson is nursing a strained hamstring and will miss the first two weeks of the outdoor season.
UP NEXT FOR THE UTES: Individual qualifiers will compete at the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif. April 19-22. Invited athletes will compete at the Pamona Pitzer Invitational in Pamona, Calif. on April 19. The majority of the team will compete at the Utah State Invitational in Logan, Utah on April 21.
