THIS WEEK: The University of Utah men's golf team will travel to San Diego, Calif., to compete in the Collegiate Classic hosted by Long Beach State University. The event will be held this Thursday and Friday at the Zaharias Course in San Diego, Calif.
COUNTRYWIDE INVITATIONAL RECAP: The University of Utah men's golf team traveled to the Countrywide Intercollegiate tournament hosted by Cal State Northridge. The Utes finished 10th as a team with a score of 904 (40-over par) in three rounds. The tournament was won by UC-Irvine with a three round score of 871 (7-over par).
Utah was led by sophomore Luke Swilor who finished tied for sixth with a three round score of 218 (2-over par). Swilor shot the low round for the Utes with a 3-under par score of 69, he is the first Ute of the season to shoot a round under par. Nick Summers and Nick Micek both tied for 65th with a three round score of 231 (15-over par), while Paul Winterowd tied for 75th with a three round score of 233 (17-over par). Junior Bruce Summerhays Jr., finished tied for 97th with a score of 239 (23-over par).
QUOTING COACH WAYNE FISHER: "This is a new tournament later in the year, which gives us a chance to improve from our last event. We are looking to carry our momentum from the last round of the Countrywide Invitational. This showed us what this team is capable of."
