The men's golf team will travel to Simi Valley, Calif., to compete in the Countrywide Home Loans Intercollegiate on Oct. 15-16. The Utes that will be competing are: Nick Micek, Nick Summers, Luke Swilor, Paul Winterowd and Ashdon Woods.
This will be Micek's first collegiate tournament of his career, while Summers has a total stroke average of 76.50 on the season. Swilor's overall stroke average this season is 77.33 and Winterowd is averaging 78.33. Freshman Woods is the only Ute to shoot a round at par this season. Finishing 51st in his first collegiate tournament, Woods has the best average on the team with 75.66. The Utes will be the sole Mountain West team attending the tournament. Other Utah schools included Southern Utah, Utah State, and Weber State.
"We are going to shake the lineup at this event to see if it improves the team," says head coach Wayne Fisher. "The opponents won't be as strong as our previous ones, so we are looking at this event as a confidence builder, and I am anxious to see how things turn out."
