SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah track and field team will travel to Pocatello, Idaho, on Thursday May 4 to compete in the ISU Twilight meet. The first event will begin with the hammer at 2:00 p.m. and will conclude with the 4 x 400 relay around 7:15 p.m. Teams from Ricks College, College of Southern Idaho, Weber State and Utah State will compete along with Utah.
The entire team will compete at the Twilight meet and then a select few will compete in the Cardinal Invitational, hosted by Stanford University, on May 5 in Palo Alto, Calif., to try and qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
Senior Chris Merkley has already provisionally qualified in the 5,000 meters but will try to obtain an automatic qualifying mark at Stanford. Travis Hildebrand and Teren Jameson will also try to qualify in the 5,000 meters.
Elisha Kekacs will attempt to qualify in the 400-meter hurdles. Chantel Goldsberry and Katherina Gallahar will seek a qualifying mark in the hammer throw and Audrey Kiser in the shot put. Johanna Nielsen will try to qualify in the 10,000 meters the following week.
"The Cardinal Invitational is one of the biggest meets in the country outside of the Olympic Trials," says head coach Mike Jones. "This meet will host some of the best distance runners and athletes in the country and will be a very competitive meet."
