Ellis Selected For West Regional

SALT LAKE CITY - Utah junior Ryan Ellis was selected to participate in the 2000 NCAA Men's Golf West Regional May 18-20 in Madera, Calif, hosted by Fresno State. Ellis and David Hearn of Wyoming were among the six individuals selected to participate in the regional.
Ellis placed 11th (76-71-71*218) at the Mountain West Conference Tournament last week where the Utes finished sixth out of the eight conference teams. Ellis had five other top 20 tournament finishes this year. He completed the season ranked 17th on the MWC leader board with a 73.7 per round average. West Regional Competition is scheduled to begin at 7:12 a.m. (PT) on Thursday, May 18 at the Riverbend Golf Club.
Five teams from the Mountain West were selected to participate in the West Regional. UNLV, BYU, New Mexico, Colorado State and San Diego State were each selected as at-large teams. The West Regional is made up of Districts seven and eight along with nine at-large teams. At least eight teams from each regional will advance to the finals and a total of 156 players in all will compete in the NCAA Men's Golf Championship.
The two lowest scoring individuals from each regional, whose team does not advance, will also move on to the championship finals. The remainder of the field will be chosen by the Division I Men's Golf Committee.
The NCAA Men's Golf Championship will be held May 31-June 3 at the Grand National Golf Complex in Opelika, Ala., hosted by Auburn University.
