Utah Golf Team Headed For Grand Canyon

The University of Utah golf team will compete in the Grand Canyon/Thunderbird Invitational in Goodyear, Ariz., Apr. 10-11. The tournament will be played at the Palm Valley Golf Course. Gregg Oliphant, Shawn Edwards, Brock Padilla, Ryan Ellis and Jake Sowby will compete for Utah.
This will be the second tournament of the year for Sowby. He played in the Pacific Match Play Intercollegiate in November and won two of his three matches.
"It will be good to see what Jake does in his first individual stroke play tournament," says Fisher. "This is a tournament that we should be competitive in. I feel like we have been close all year and we are running out of tournaments to show what we're made of. We would like to build some momentum going into the conference tournament."
Last year: Utah placed 10th (300-306-299-905) out of 18 teams. Shawn Edwards placed 22nd (75-73-76-223) and Brock Padilla 29th (76-77-73-226) for Utah. Gregg Oliphant finished 64th (75-81-78-234).
Last week: Utah placed 15th out of 21 teams at the Anteater Invitational on Mar. 28. Shawn Edwards led the Utes finishing 12th (77-73-71--221). Ryan Ellis followed in 45th place(79-75-75--229).
Up next: Utah will play in the Ben Hogan Cougar Classic Apr. 21-22 in Provo, Utah, and the Mountain West Conference Tournament May 1-3 in Palm Desert, Calif.
