SALT LAKE CITY -
The Utah golf team will participate in the USD Invitational Mar. 20-21 at the Shadow Ridge Country Club in San Diego, Calif. Gregg Oliphant, Lance Richards, Shawn Edwards, Brock Padilla and Ryan Ellis will compete for Utah.
It has been almost a month since the Utes competed in a tournament. They finished 16th out of 18 teams at the highly competitive John Burns Invitational in Honolulu, Hawaii, on Feb. 25. But the warm weather and week long break from classes has given the team a chance to get in some quality practice time.
"We have had a week of good, solid practice because of spring break," says head coach Wayne Fisher. "This is a tournament that we have an opportunity to be competitive in. I really like our chances to do well." The Utes played this tournament in 1998, finishing 11th out of 18 teams (308-299-309--910). Shawn Edwards placed 52nd out of 95 golfers shooting 232 (80-76-76) over three rounds. He is the only Ute out of the five that will compete on Monday that has competitively played the course before.
Up next: Utah will play in the Anteater Invitational in Irvine, Calif, Mar. 27-28.
