SALT LAKE CITY - Megan Payne-Dorny upset the 44th ranked player, but the Utah women's tennis team suffered its third and fourth consecutive losses by the same score, 7-2, to No. 27 New Mexico and No. 58 Nevada-Las Vegas.
Payne-Dorny split on the weekend, defeating No. 44 Ana Friganovic of UNM 6-1, 3-6, 6-4. UNLV's Katarina Malec, ranked No. 23, snapped Payne-Dorny's perfect 6-0 dual match record, 6-2, 6-2.
Freshmen Cassie Kasteler and Frida Kareld each had one win for the Utes on the weekend. Kareld won in a three-set thriller over the Rebels' Marianne Bakken, 7-6, 4-6, 6-4, while Kasteler drilled Nicoleta Spilca for the Lobos, 6-2, 6-4.
Linn Ronnberg and Brooke Wilkinson earned the lone doubles victory for the Utes, downing Michaela Gabl and Amela Hadziosmanovic of UNLV, 8-6.
