Salt Lake City - Salt Lake City, Utah- The University of Utah women's basketball team announced the signing of the top prep recruit in Utah. Head Coach Elaine Elliott received a National Letter of Intent from Lana Sitterud, Wed., Nov. 8.
Sitterud is a 5-10 guard from Highland, Utah. She was a 2000 first-team all-state selection and Region 6 Player of the Year. Two years ago, Sitterud became the first sophomore to earn The Salt Lake Tribune's Most Valuable Player award after guiding the Knights to the Class 4-A state championship. She averaged 16.6 points, seven assists and six rebounds last year, guiding Lone Peak to the state quarterfinals.
"I am thrilled the Lana is coming to play in our program," said Head Coach Elaine Elliott. "She is a great individual and has had an exceptional high school basketball career. She is, as we are, looking forward to seeing how far we can take her as a player in this program. It has been at times an interesting process, and Lana's decision to attend Utah is a rather courageous one. She is to be commended for seeing in us what we saw in her."
"Lana is one of the best players to come out of the state of Utah in several years, so that is a great accomplishment for the Utes," said Lone Peak Head Coach Shauna Kay. " She is very physical, strong and aggressive and I think she plays their (Utah's) style of play."
"I am thrilled to be able to go to Utah," said Lana Sitterud. "It is a great university and the tradition of women's basketball at Utah is amazing. I am honored to have the opportunity to be a part of it."
