The University of Utah golf team will participate in the Spalding Anteater Invitational hosted by UC Irvine March 29-30. The tournament will be held at the Coto de Caza Country Club in Irvine, California.
The five Ute golfers participating will be: senior Jon Morgan, junior Gregg Oliphant, sophomore Shawn Edwards and senior Brecken Varah.
"This is the first tournament of the year for Varah," Head Coach Wayne Fisher said. This will be a new course for Brecken but he has had great qualifying rounds."
California has not been kind to the Utes as they are coming off an 18th place finish at the Aldila Classic hosted by San Diego State two weeks ago. In the meantime, Fisher had the team out practicing on different courses throughout the spring break.
"We had opportunities to play some good courses and get good practices in without having to worry about the school end of things," Fisher said. "I know what this team is capable of. We need to simplify our approach, play the game and see what happens."
Utah's next tournament will be the Grand Canyon/Thunderbird Invitational hosted by Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, Arizona, April 12-13.
